Singer Demi Lovato says she’s “a much more pleasant person to work with” after seeking treatment for several mental health issues including bipolar disorder. ”The biggest change is that I’m not stressed out all the time,” she said during a recent interview with radio station Mix 94.1. “I also wanted to let people know why I was in there because…I felt like God gave me a voice for a reason and He put me though these issues for a reason, and when you combine the two you can use it to help people. And that was my biggest goal, I wanted to help people.” We...

New Wave icon Adam Ant has been hospitalized for treatment of bipolar disorder, reports the UK Guardian. “I am having a well-earned rest at Her Majesty’s pleasure and am painting and continuing being an art student,” he wrote. “I have a great view and am considering gigs later in the year.” Although it is 15 years since Adam Ant’s last LP, the singer – real name Stuart Goddard – is working on a new album and had begun a series of celebratory club gigs. As a child of the ’80s, Adam and the Ants was a guilty pleasure I never outgrew. With is wild...

Great news for people with bipolar disorder and other mood disorders…omega-3 fatty acids may help. From Omega-3 fatty acids are key to a healthier life “There’s very strong, medical-nutrition, literature-based evidence in humans suggesting that the average American would probably have a healthier life, a lower risk of dying from heart disease and improved brain function by consuming more fish, more supplements or more functional foods with DHA and EPA,” says nutritional scientist Bruce Holub, of the University of Guelph in Ontario and executive director of the...

Bipolar Bear has been hard at work, raising awareness of Bipolar Disorder across social media. The overwhelming majority of comments have been positive, but it was inevitable that we’d eventually receive a negative review. As I said to the reviewer (who apparently didn’t visit this site or read about the development of the Bipolar Bear App): “Needless to say, we’re very disappointed in your review of the Bipolar Bear application for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. If you’d visit our website, mybpbear.com, you’d see the list of charities we support, and the...

MyBPBear.com runs on Wordpress, an open-source blogging platform. The upside of open-source software is that Wordpress is free to use. The downside is that the developers who create Wordpress add-ons are generally volunteers, and sometimes they stop supporting their work. The poll widget we installed is not compatible with the latest version of Wordpress, and has stopped accepting new votes. We’re on the lookout for a Wordpress plugin with the same functionality as WP-Polls. In the mean time, we’ve substituted a new poll widget (and we’re keeping track of the votes collected...
